We are the type of people who always book an apartment or villa when we go on a holiday. Why? It simply has many advantages over hotels and resorts. Sure it's nice to be pampered in a resort. You get up and walk to the buffet. You eat something. Return to your room and it is completely clean again. Sounds perfect. However, there are many reasons why you should book an apartment on Ilha do Sal instead of a resort.

Most people who go to a foreign country for the first time want to stay in a convenient and safe environment. That is not illogical. That's why resorts are so popular. Everything is mapped out for you. You just need to wake up every day. On the other hand, staying in resorts contributes little or nothing to the local economy. The money that a tourist spends on a stay in a resort does not even reach Cape Verde. The guests eat within the resort, sleep within the resort, eat an ice cream within the resort and have a drink within the resort. In other words; the local population benefits way too little from tourism. The resorts do provide employment. That's true, but they do it for minimum wages. It is more valuable for a tourist to book an apartment and/or other accommodation. As a result, the tourist goes out more, which brings economical benefits for the local population.

Who wants to queue for their food? We don’t. Who wants to queue for food made for large groups of people, sacrificing quality? We don’t. Who wants to stay in a 25 m2 room, while you can stay for less money in at least double the number of square meters? We don’t. On the island of Ilha do Sal and especially in Santa Maria you have dozens of restaurants of good quality. You can eat fantastic dishes. The food is fresh and the ambiance is nice too. Isn't it nice to eat somewhere different every day? And isn't it nice to eat in a different ambiance every day? We do think so.

Isn't the daily service of making your bed overrated? You can do that yourself at home, right? You'll be done with it in two minutes. Clean towels? We have those too. In fact, we also have a washing machine that you can use for all your clothes. A big plus when you have your own stay is that you have your own kitchen. By going to the supermarket yourself, you get to see people, get to know the culture and you can control much better what you do and do not want to eat during a holiday.
